Hello Gamers

My Name is Tunc and I live in Istanbul. I'm a role playing gamer and a boardgame geek since 1987. I am a member of Boardgamegeek.com and BGDF.com (boardgame designers form) with the nick name of Toonch.

Since I wrote many RPG senarios I could't help designing boardgames of my own. At First I converted existing games into new themes such as converting Civilization into modern corporation marketing war in Istanbul city but as you can guess, it wasn't popular with our gaming group though the system was working well...

In the early 90's I design a Dungeon crawling game "Tayamat" and play tested countless times. It was a little chaotic treasure hunt with missions and lots of dice rolls in a square board up to 6 people.

At the end of 90's I was tired of updating the rules Tayamat every time we played and I give up spending time for it. In 2002 I quit game mastering for Shadowrun RPG after 3 years. I took the old and dusty box of Tayamat and my game notes folder from the shelf and start to work again. The game got complicated more and more which I regret because I wasted so much time by doing so. In 2005 Descent released by Fantasy Flight Games with high quality components and a solid game play. As I saw this game I knew I was too late. My design took a dramatic turn and I deleted every unnecessary rules and games components. It began to get simlified and I also managed to decrease the play time, just under 1 hour. Then I deceided to use modular game board to increase replayability. I tested every change I made as much as I could. Finally I worked on some graphics with the pictures I gathered from the web for my final prototype. I think the hardest part was writing the rules but I think succeded to write clear rules in 4 pages long. So It's neary done.

During this design I considered many game mechanics and theme. I abondened many of them but choosed a few... Some of these ideals was so charming to me, so that I designed a real estate boardgame with them in 2005. I named it as "Emlak" which means Real Estate in Turkish. It's a tile placement and a card game with simple rules, played in 30 minutes, 2-4 people. This Game is my second comleted game.

Finaly my latest design is an abstract game. I play Go and Chess but not a fan of Checkers 'cause I'm really a terrible player. My design resembles Checkers, Chess and Risk. This one will be free to print and play. You'll also need d4, d6 and d8 to play (d means dice - for non gamers).

In this blog I'll write about these games and my other on-going designs, their development phases, comments of the test players and their current situtation. Please feel free to drop any comment...

Finally, Please forgive me for any spelling mistakes since English is not my native language.

Cheers,
Tunc

Perhaps you can break into the market where you live. I don't know how big board games are over there, but maybe you have a geographical advantage.

I am looking forward to our "play testing" sessions mate. I enjoyed both Tayamat and Emlak and can't wait to see this other game you speak of.

I just wish we had more time to be able to enjoy the role playing games too like we used to.

Well; keep gaming and take care.
